About Michael Shawn Lewis
Michael Shawn Lewis is a TV executive producer, writer and director for the hit PBS Children’s TV series, “Splash and Bubbles”-produced by the Jim Henson Company and a director on the Netflix Original Series, “Word Party.” Additionally as an accomplished theatrical producer, broadway performer, and activist, Michael was nominated for a Drama Desk Award for his work on the Off-Broadway production of “ImaginOcean.” He co-produced and developed the US/international productions of “Jim Henson’s Sid The Science Kid Live!”, “Jim Henson’s Dinosaur Train Live! Buddy’s Big Adventure”, and produced the live international tour of “ImaginOcean.” Michael is currently developing and collaborating on a sizable slate of new programming aimed at the big screen and the stage.
Through MSL Media he creates, directs and produces live family shows and ship-board experiences for Carnival Cruise Lines and Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines. He has co-created and/or produced shows for Sesame Place, the Bronx Zoo, and the New York Aquarium. In 2011 Michael co-founded The New York Children’s Theater Festival, a non-profit organization established to support upcoming artists and industry professionals passionate about creating live theater for children.
On Broadway he performed in the Phantom of the Opera and Woman in White and in European productions of Les Miserables and Elisabeth. He sang back-up with Sting at the Tony Awards, with James Taylor at Lincoln Center, and has performed as soloist with the London Symphony and the Omaha Symphony Orchestras.
Over the last two decades Michael’s activism has spanned the globe. He has travel to India with ASTEP-Artists Striving To End Poverty to work at The George Foundation, and to the Caribbean with the St John School of the Arts, empowering countless kids to find their own creative voices.
